THE TRUSTED VOICE OF NZ’s
AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY SINCE 1984

July issue out now

The MTA is calling on politicians to set up a training fund to support businesses taking on apprentices and a scrappage scheme to clean up the fleet. The items are included in its roadmap published ahead of this year’s general election. It also wants a balanced WOF system, a boost for the switch to EVs and laws updated.

The MIA is modernising the management and reporting of sales data by launching DataHub, which it has developed with InfoAgent. Aimee Wiley, the association’s chief executive, says the platform will benefit members and create opportunities for the wider market to access “high-quality automotive data and insights”.

Kiwi dealers are being advised to get “first-mover advantage” over competitors by attending the 2026 Australian Automotive Dealer Association Convention and Expo to learn what’s on the horizon for the industry.

Autofile pores through the big reveals at this year’s Fieldays, including a plug-in hybrid ute and a marque’s first hybrid for the New Zealand market.

• Inchcape NZ has ended its agreement to be KGM’s distributor by mutual consent with a final date for the split to be confirmed.

• James Hendry, of AdTorque Edge NZ, outlines why the case for dealers investing in YouTube and broadcaster video on demand has never been stronger.

• VIA chief Greig Epps explains why used imports have a different but equally essential role to the new-car sector in supporting the transition to EVs.

• Lisa Stewart, Trade Me’s new head of motors at Trade Me, wants the platform to deliver great value for dealers.

• Turners’ annual report highlights how it is turning industry headwinds into tailwinds and hitting profit goals ahead of schedule.

• Staff at Miles Skoda are all smiles after claiming dealer of the year for three years in a row.

• The MTA’s Larry Fallowfield highlights how the car market has been a surprisingly strong performer for our economy despite rising costs and worldwide uncertainty.

• Kit Wilkerson, of VIA, says rule reforms must allow independent repairers to access the information needed to diagnose, fix, calibrate and safely return vehicles to the road.

Plus: Scott McLaughlin’s journey to IndyCar stardom, movers, disputes, in-depth industry statistics and much more.
