Auction sales ‘solid’

Online auction platform Collecting Cars says the market for classic, performance and collectible models remains solid after it cleared more than 70 lots last month.

The company says its Australasia sales had a combined value of more than A$5 million (about NZ$6m) during May.

Last month’s tally takes its year-to-date sales to more than A$37.1m, which is the same as last year.

Among the highlights for May was a 2018 Nissan (R35) GT-R Nismo, pictured, fetching NZ$272,500 in New Zealand.

Across the ditch, a 2016 Ferrari California T – Handling Speciale was among the top lots after it sold for A$219,500.

Other highlights in Australia included a 2017 Ferrari 488 Challenge – Evo Upgrade making A$215,000 and a 2006 Porsche 911 (997) Turbo going under the hammer for A$190,500.

Last month’s average vehicle sale price was more than A$71,000, which Collecting Cars says signalled confidence by sellers and buyers.

“Collector car sales in Australia and New Zealand remain on a solid trajectory,” adds Alessandro Birighitti, sales operations specialist.

“Our current clearance rates and next month’s listings indicate they are not slowing.”
