VW celebrates EV milestone

Volkswagen has celebrated the delivery its 1.5 millionth all-electric ID. vehicle after handing over an ID.7 Tourer Pro to a customer at the marque’s plant in Emden, Germany.
The milestone comes almost five years after the first EVs from Volkswagen’s ID. family were delivered in September 2020. The company now tops the registration statistics in the electric segment for Germany and Europe.
Martin Sander, board member for sales, marketing and after-sales, says the 1.5 million ID. models delivered shows Volkswagen is a pioneer in the field of electromobility.
“This confirms that our portfolio contains the vehicles our customers need,” he adds.
“As a company, we are on the right path. Volkswagen remains a trailblazer in the ramp-up phase of electromobility.”
Sander handed over the key to the milestone vehicle at the Emden plant, which is an example of Volkswagen’s transformation.
In recent years, the group has invested more than €1 billion (about NZ$2b) in converting it into an exclusively EV manufacturing facility.
With Zwickau and Gläserne Manufaktur Dresden, both in Germany, they are the only Volkswagen plants worldwide dedicated solely to EVs.
Further ID. models are produced at factories in the German city of Hanover, Chattanooga in the United States, and Foshan, Changsha and Anting, which are all in China.
The ID. family has grown since its launch in 2020 and includes the compact model ID.3, the SUV ID.4 and its coupe version ID.5, and the electric bus ID. Buzz.
The most recent additions are the ID.7 and the ID.7 Tourer, which came out in 2024.
