Vandals strike at dealership

A Timaru dealership is counting the cost after the rear windows of three cars at the business were smashed by vandals.

Police attended Pykes Auto Court on Grants Road, Timaru, on the afternoon of Sunday, July 14, following a report of damaged vehicles from a member of the public.

Darryl Pyke, owner of the business, says he arrived that day to see glass everywhere and police officers removing two youths from the yard, reports the Timaru Herald.

Pyke adds one of the damaged vehicles belongs to him, one to his daughter and another to a customer. Pyke notes his daughter’s car also had the side windows and tail lights smashed.

“It’s such a shame and it’s such a senseless act,” he told the Timaru Herald. “The cost of fixing one car alone will be at least a few thousand dollars.”
