Used-import market grows
The number of used-imported cars registered in New Zealand increased by 2.5 per cent last month to 6,956, when compared with the 6,785 units in February 2025.
The year-to-date total stands at 14,557, which is 2.8 per cent higher than the 14,155 units at the same stage a year ago.
Toyota’s Aqua was the best-selling model last month with 622 registrations – down by 12 per cent from 707 units in February last year – and a market share of 8.9 per cent.
The top two remained unchanged, with the Toyota Prius second on 430 units and 6.2 per cent.
Next was Nissan’s Note with 348 sales for a five per cent market share, the Toyota Corolla on 320 and 4.6 per cent and Subaru’s Impreza, pictured, with 249 and 3.6 per cent.
The Aqua leads the year-to-date standings on 1,403 units and a market share of 9.6 per cent, followed by the Prius on 898 and 6.2 per cent.
Toyota was the number one marque in February with 2,361 registrations for 33.9 per cent of the market. Its monthly total was down by 6.4 per cent from 2,522 in the same month of 2025.
Nissan was the second most popular brand last month with 1,066 units for a market share of 15.3 per cent, and Mazda was third on 968 and 13.9 per cent.
Year to date, Toyota is out front with 5,000 registrations and a 34.3 per cent market share.
Nissan is next on 2,210 and 15.2 per cent, and Mazda has 2,051 and 14.1 per cent.
