Super hybrids revealed

The advanced Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) system will make its Kiwi debut in July with the refreshed Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8, pictured.
“The launch of our CSH technology in New Zealand marks a major milestone in our new-energy journey,” says Lucas Harris, chief operating officer of Chery Australia and New Zealand.
“Kiwi drivers can now experience the next generation of hybrid performance where innovation meets real-world practicality.”
At the heart of the CSH system is a fifth-generation 1.5-litre TGDI dedicated hybrid engine, delivering “industry leading” thermal efficiency of 44.5 per cent.
This engine works with the marque’s stepless super-hybrid dedicated hybrid transmission, which achieves 98.5 per cent efficiency for a driving experience “that’s both powerful and incredibly smooth”.
Paired with a high-capacity lithium-ion phosphate blade battery, the CSH system offers a pure-electric range of more than 90km and a total driving range exceeding 1,200km. The battery supports DC fast charging, allowing users to “fill up” from 30-80 per cent in 19 minutes.
Chery says it has been a pioneer in energy saving and new-energy vehicle development since 1999, becoming one of China’s first independent carmakers to invest in this space.
The development of CSH reflects its “commitment to combining technological excellence with large-scale deployment, further strengthening its presence in global markets”. More details will be advised closer to launch.
