BRZs sold before landing

The performance-honed Subaru BRZ Tsubasa has arrived with the 10 limited-edition vehicles taking their name from the Japanese kanji script, which translates to “wings”.
If you want to buy one, you’re out of luck because all were pre-sold before landing here. That said, Subaru of NZ is working on obtaining another special-edition BRZ, which would arrive late this year.
“The BRZ’s reputation as a driver’s car has preceded it and the 10 Tsubasa units we were allocated have already sold before they even hit our authorised centres,” says Kym Mellow, general manager of distributor Inchcape NZ. “We hope to be able to share news of the next limited-edition BRZ in coming months.”
He adds the Tsubasa is “piece of Subaru history”. It comes with an exclusive numbered presentation key box – from one to 10 – and an engraved key ring similar to the WRX special editions AKA, Tatsu and Todoroki.
The Tsubasa name is also a play on the BRZ tS, incorporating the highest-specification BRZ’s first two letters. It features STI-tuned front and rear suspension dampers to maximise its light weight, an ultra-low centre of gravity and precision handling.
High-performance Brembo brakes, including gold-painted, four-piston front callipers and two-piston rear callipers, larger pads and rotors enhance stopping power and pedal feel.
The BRZ Tsubasa sports bespoke 18-inch dark grey metallic alloys with 215/40 R18 Michelin Pilot 4s. Its exterior comes exclusively in blue and there is a six-speed manual transmission for Kiwi owners.
