Sales of BYD ute jump 170 per cent as new and used commercial sectors record year-on-year increases.

Shark climbs into top five

There were 3,811 new commercials registered last month, a 5.4 per cent increase from 3,617 in September 2025. 

Ford’s Ranger, pictured, was the best-selling model in September with 843 units, up 2.4 per cent from the 823 units sold in the same month a year ago. It had a market share of 22.1 per cent.

Next was the Toyota Hilux on 823 registrations, a year-on-year rise of 7.4 per cent from 766, and Mitsubishi’s Triton was third with 392 sales after a 15.3 per cent increase from 340 units. 

BYD’s Shark 6 was fourth with 219 sales, after jumping 170.4 per cent from 81 a year ago, and the Toyota Hiace completed the top five on 177 registrations.

The Ranger tops the year-to-date standings with 7,063 registrations and a 23.7 per cent share of the market.

In second place is the Hilux on 5,983 and 20.1 per cent, and the Triton is third on 2,994 units and 10.1 per cent.

The market’s year-to-date total stands at 29,778 units.

Toyota claimed the number one spot on the marques’ ladder in September with 1,026 registrations, the same tally it achieved a year ago, and a market share of 26.9 per cent.

Ford was next on 960 units, up 0.8 per cent from 962, and Mitsubishi was third with 392 after climbing 15.3 per cent from 340 units.

Toyota remains top of the year-to-date charts with 8,264 registrations and a market share of 27.8 per cent. Ford is second with 7,930 and 26.6 per cent and Mitsubishi completes the top three on 2,994 and 10.1 per cent.

Used market up 21%

As for used-imported commercials, the 463 units registered in September were up 21.2 per cent from 382 in the same month last year. This brings the year-to-date total to 3,678.

Toyota’s Hiace was the top model last month on 228 registrations, up from 109 in September 2025, and a market share of 49.2 per cent.

Next were Nissan’s NV200 with 26 sales and Caravan on 18. The Isuzu Elf completed 15 registrations and the LDV T60 secured 13 to complete the top five.

The Hiace has 1,573 sales year-to-date for a 42.8 per cent market share, and Nissan’s NV200 is second on 200 and 5.4 per cent.

Toyota was the top marque last month with 256 registrations, a 76.6 per cent increase from 145 a year ago.

Nissan followed with 67 and the top five was rounded off by Isuzu on 27, LDV with 17 and Ford on 15.

Year to date, Toyota has 1,864 registrations and a 50.7 per cent market share. Nissan is next on 590 and 16 per cent, with Ford third on 179 and 4.9 per cent.
