Recall advice for dealers

Dealers are being advised to ensure all recalls on vehicles are closed out before they try to bring them into the country.
The Imported Motor Vehicle Industry Association (VIA) has sent out an alert to its members providing some key advice.
“Recently, Toyota NZ has instituted a recall campaign for Lexus and Toyota model vehicles including used imports,” the email says.
“If a customer asks you if their car is subject to this recall you can check the Toyota NZ recall webpage and let them know that Toyota will write to them to organise the rework required.”
VIA also reminds dealers that best practice is to ensure they check Japanese recall databases for vehicles purchased in Japan and have all recalls closed out by original equipment manufacturers before export.
“It is a compliance requirement that Takata airbag recalls are closed out before an MR2A can be completed,” it adds.
“The technical minimum is to clear the airbag recall, but VIA supports dealers wanting all safety recalls rectified.”
