Intelligent Transportation Systems NZ (ITSNZ) has been successful in its bid to host the ITS Asia-Pacific Forum in 2027.

It follows president and chairman Armin Guttke making a bid presentation at an ITS Asia-Pacific’s board of directors’ meeting supported by New Zealand’s ambassador to South Korea, Dawn Bennet, and a delegation from government and industry.

Winning the bid is the culmination of many months of planning, and years of developing international relations and government support on behalf of ITSNZ’s members.

The forum will take place from May 5-7, 2027, at the newly opened New Zealand International Convention Centre (NZICC) in Auckland.

The event is expected to attract more than 1000 delegates and will tackle advancing the future of ITS. Its theme will be “navigating tomorrow – advancing intelligent transport together.

ITSNZ was up against a “formidable bid” put forward by the Intelligent Transportation Society of Singapore. It focused on the ideas of working together and collaborating across borders and sectors to advance ITS and technology-enabled transport solutions.

The bid included support from Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, Mayor of Auckland Wayne Brown, NZTA chairman Simon Bridges and Rene de Monchy, Tourism New Zealand’s chief executive officer.

ITSNZ is also thankful for assistance from the teams at Tourism NZ, Tātaki Auckland Unlimited, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and event services at the University of Auckland. As hosts, ITS NZ and ITS Asia-Pacific will now collaborate to plan the event.
