Toyota RAV4 on top as leading three models remain unchanged, while MG3 makes substantial gains.

There were 6,092 new passenger vehicles registered in April, which was down by only 0.3 per cent from 6,110 units in the same month of last year.

Toyota’s RAV4 retained its place at the top of model chart last month after selling 697, down from 1,010 in April 2024, and accounted for 11.4 per cent of the market.

Next on the ladder – with the top three unchanged from March – was Mitsubishi’s ASX with 329 registrations and a 5.4 per cent market share, and the marque’s Outlander recorded 253 and 4.2 per cent.

Kia’s Seltos held onto fourth place with 219 sales and a 3.6 per cent share of the market. The MG ZS completed the top five on 150 and 2.5 per cent.

The highest climber in the top 10 was the MG3, pictured, after its registrations leapt 153.3 per cent from 45 a year ago to 114 last month. 

The ASX recorded the second-biggest increase of the leading models, with its figures climbing 82.8 per cent from 180 to 329.

In year-to-date terms, there have been 29,553 sales so far in 2025, which is down by 12.8 per cent from 33,875 at the same stage a year ago.

The RAV4 remains the leading model this year after selling 3,139 units to secure a 10.6 per cent share of activity.

The ASX is second on the year-to-date chart with 1,261 units, followed by the Outlander on 1,246, the Seltos with 1,160 and the Suzuki Swift on 756.

Toyota topped the marques’ ladder in April with 1,334 registrations – down 19.6 per cent from 1,660 in the same month a year ago – and 21.9 per cent of the market. 

Mitsubishi was second with 693 sales and 11.4 per cent and Kia came third on 548 and nine per cent. Suzuki and MG were next on the ladder with 332 and 301 units respectively.

Toyota is the leading marque year-to-date with 6,246 units and a 21.1 per cent market share.

Next is Mitsubishi with 2,960 registrations and 10 per cent, and Kia on 2,930 and 9.9 per cent.
