Knight Rider car cops speeding ticket
Staff at a museum near Chicago have been left baffled after receiving a speeding ticket for a replica KITT car, which was made famous in the TV series Knight Rider, even though it hasn’t been moved from its display for years.
The Volo Museum in Illinois was sent a ticket for a US$50 fine (about NZ$85) after it was claimed a camera in New York City had snapped the black Pontiac Trans Am travelling at 36mph (56kph) in a 25mph (40kph) zone in April.
The museum has posted a photo of the infringement notice, pictured below, on social media and also name-checked Knight Rider star David Hasselhoff.
“We got this in the mail … This is 100% legit. A traffic camera captured Knight Rider’s KITT speeding down the streets of New York City,” the post says.
“The camera captured the novelty licence plate (not a real plate… and also a California plate).
“Their official system ties the novelty plate to Volo Museum and we got a bill for $50!
“You can’t make this up! Our KITT hasn’t moved from our museum in years! Does anyone have Hasselhoff’s number? He owes us $50!”
The New York City Department of Finance and the New York City Department of Transportation are reportedly looking into the matter.
