Trade Me is teaming up with CarExpert.com.au, Australia’s largest new-vehicle destination, in a joint venture to launch CarExpert NZ (CENZ) early next year.

The partnership will make the process of researching and comparing new cars easier for consumers by providing them with access to quality, independent reviews.

The idea is to arm New Zealanders with the confidence to make better purchasing decisions amid a rapidly growing market of marques and models.

“This joint venture with CarExpert will bring together the strength of Trade Me’s audience with CarExpert’s proven expertise,” says Brendan Hall, head of Trade Me Motors. “The constant influx of new models can make buying a new car feel overwhelming. Our aim is to make this process easier for Kiwis.

“CarExpert NZ will provide the high-quality, independent content needed to help buyers research, compare and make confident decisions about new cars available.

“We invested in CarExpert because of the proven success it has had in Australia. Its content engages with millions of Aussies every month, proving its strong resonance with buyers across the ditch.”

Founded in 2020 by Alborz Fallah, Anthony Crawford and Paul Maric, CarExpert has grown into one of Australia’s most influential automotive brands. It’s well-known for its independent reviews, in-depth video content and expert comparison tools that attract millions of visitors every month.

“This joint venture and investment by Trade Me represents a huge vote of confidence in what we’ve built at CarExpert,” says Fallah.

“We’ve always believed consumers deserve transparency, trust and genuinely independent advice when it comes to buying a new car. Now we can bring that same experience to New Zealanders.

“With Trade Me’s support and understanding of the local market, we’ll be able to offer the same high-quality, data-driven and entertaining content that’s resonated so strongly in Australia.”

Investing in local talent, CENZ will immediately begin recruiting for several key roles including a general manager and editor-in-chief to lead the Kiwi operations.

The company is seeking New Zealand’s leading automotive talent, including a prominent reviewer-driver to become the authoritative face of new car reviews.

Unlocking audiences for dealers, CENZ's independent content and reviews will be syndicated across multiple platforms including its own dedicated new website, Trade Me and Stuff.

“Dealerships and manufacturers will benefit from the new partnership that will attract and inform Kiwis, driving valuable, high-intent leads straight to them,” adds Hall.

“Our immediate focus is on growing our new car audience and content for Kiwi enthusiasts and serious buyers. This is an exciting opportunity to be an attractive channel for dealers and brands to market their offerings.” CarExpert NZ will launch in early 2026.
