Hilux bounces back

Sales of Toyota ute increase 26.5 per cent from a year ago but Ford’s Ranger remains top of the charts.

Hilux bounces back

There were 2,747 new commercials registered last month, a drop of 11.5 per cent when compared with 3,105 in April 2024. 

The latest tally was also down 21.2 per cent from 3,488 units in March this year.

Ford’s Ranger was the best-selling model in April with 674 units, a fall of 19 per cent from 832 in the same month a year ago. 

Next was the Toyota Hilux, pictured, on 644 registrations after climbing 26.5 per cent year-on-year from 509 units.

Nissan’s Navara was third in April with 218 sales, a rise of 25.3 per cent from 174. Toyota’ Hiace was next on 163 and fifth spot was claimed by the Mitsubishi Triton with 149. 

The Hilux leads the way year-to-date with 2,527 registrations and a 21.4 per cent share of the market.

In second place is the Ranger on 2,462 and 20.8 per cent, and the Triton is third on 1,154 units and 9.8 per cent.

The market’s overall year-to-date total stands at 11,819 units, which is 23.1 per cent lower than the 15,377 registrations at the same stage of 2024.

On the marques’ ladder, Toyota was top in April with 838 registrations, up from 714 a year ago, and a market share of 30.5 per cent.

Ford was next on 754 units, which compares with 939 in April 2024, and Nissan was third on 218.

Toyota tops the year-to-date charts with 3,243 registrations and a market share of 27.4 per cent. Ford is second with 2,848 and 24.1 per cent and Mitsubishi completes the top three on 1154 and 9.8 per cent.

As for used-imported commercials, the 313 units registered in April was down 35.1 per cent from 482 in the same month last year.

This brings the year-to-date total to 1,445, which is 39.5 per cent fewer than the 2,388 sales at this stage a year ago.

Toyota’s Hiace was the leading model last month on 91 registrations and a market share of 29.1 per cent, despite its tally falling 54.5 per cent from 200 registrations in the previous April.

The Nissan NV350 was next on 24, down 63.6 per cent from 66 units over the same period, and Hino’s Dutro was third as its registrations rose from 14 to 17.

The Hiace is the leading model year to date with 520 sales and a 36 per cent market share, and the NV350 is second on 111 units and 7.7 per cent.

Toyota was the top marque last month with 127 registrations, a 51.7 per cent decrease from 263 a year ago, followed by Nissan with 67 units. Isuzu was third on 23 sales, closely followed by Hino on 22.

Year to date, Toyota has 688 registrations and a 47.6 per cent market share. Nissan is next on 271 and 18.8 per cent, with Hino third on 89 and 6.2 per cent.
