The impact of the fuel crisis on businesses and having a new lending regulator were two of the headline topics when the Financial Services Federation (FSF) held its annual conference at the Pullman Hotel in Auckland.

Lenders from across New Zealand and Australia attended the event on October 16 to exchange ideas, explore emerging challenges and discuss the future of the industry.

Lyn McMorran, FSF’s executive director, opened the day-long event before Professor Robert Patman, from the University of Otago, spoke about major geopolitical trends and New Zealand’s response.

Kiwibank chief economist Jarrod Kerr shared insights with attendees on the lasting effects of the fuel crisis on New Zealand’s economy and the outlook for businesses and consumers.

Representatives from the Financial Markets Authority (FMA) also took to the stage to discuss the impact of the first 100 days since it took on responsibility for overseeing the Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Act.

The conference ended with a speech from Todd Hunter, FSF’s executive committee chair and Turners Automotive Group chief executive, before a networking celebration.
