Electric drive ‘at core’

Leapmotor has confirmed the New Zealand launch of its B10 Ultra Hybrid EV to strengthen its growing local line-up.

It will be arriving in dealerships in July in two trim levels with the Life starting at $39,990 plus on-road costs and priced from $44,990.

The marque says the SUV’s architecture reimagines the hybrid concept by placing electric drive at its core and delivering a “genuinely 100 per cent electric experience”.

Unlike traditional plug-in hybrids when the engine often contributes to propulsion, the wheels on this B10 are powered solely by the electric motor. The compact range extender 1.5-litre petrol engine engages only to produce electricity and recharge the battery when needed.

Brian Carr, general manager of Leapmotor NZ, says: “Key to its success is the commitment to delivering cutting-edge technology and value.

“New Zealand customers benefit from experiencing the pure-electric drive feel plus lack of range anxiety with an 18.8kWh battery offering 86km and a combined range of 900km on the WLTP.”

Depending on driving needs or terrain, owners can choose between four energy modes to optimise efficiency and or performance.

Getting connected

Inside, the smartphone-like digital environment is powered by Leap OS 4.0 Plus and the high-performance Qualcomm 8155 chipset. A 14.6-inch 2.5K HD central display provides a seamless interface for connectivity, entertainment and vehicle controls. There’s also an immersive 12-speaker premium audio system.

Leapmotor continually provides updates to allow drivers to download the latest software via its over-the-air functionality.

Connectivity gets a boost with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, available through wired and wireless connections. This gives users access to their preferred apps on the 14.6-inch infotainment display.

Vehicle software updates are continually made available meaning the SUV will always have the most up-to-date relevant technology built into it.

Marque’s global growth

Leapmotor has now passed 1.5 million cumulative deliveries worldwide. In April 2026 alone, it sold 71,387 units for a 73.9 per cent increase from the same month a year ago.

It says its growth secures it as one of the fastest-growing new-energy vehicle (NEV) start-ups in China and is an example of Leapmotor further strengthening itself as a leader among emerging NEV brands.

Driven by the expansion of its product line-up and “sustained technological innovation”, Leapmotor is “edging towards” its goal of being a leading and widely accessible smart EV manufacturer.
