Comedian pokes fun at EVs

Actor and comedian Julia Louis-Dreyfus was at her deadpan best when she fronted a parody advert for a battery-powered car.

The spoof commercial for the Mercedes AA Class – a car powered entirely by 9,648 removable AA batteries – screened on the US comedy show Saturday Night Live in April 2016.

Louis-Dreyfus plays the spokesperson for the electric car with an unconventional energy supply that means “no more plugs and no more charging stations”.

She also lists the vehicle’s features such as a top speed of 52mph (84kph), an energy monitor that tracks each battery individually, and a “ribbon release auto-dump feature” that allows the driver to ditch the entire battery supply and start afresh.

The kicker, of course, is that batteries are not included with the luxury sedan.
