Toyota gears up for Fieldays

Toyota NZ says it will have its “strongest ever” SUV and ute line-up at this year’s Fieldays, including the new-generation Land Cruiser Prado and its Hilux Hybrid.

Fans of the Prado, pictured, will get an exclusive first look at its pre-production version at the event.

It will be arriving for test drives from August and deliveries, for which orders are now open, will start in October.

Andrew Davis, Toyota NZ’s mobility group vice-president, says the SUV has undergone its first major design upgrade in 15 years.

“There’s been a lot of interest in the Prado already as one of our legacy models,” he adds. “Its rugged style has gone back to its roots.

“It holds its own as a high-quality off-roader with the benefit of modern technology, improved performance, and is the first Land Cruiser to transition to a hybrid powertrain featuring a 48-volt hybrid system matched to a 2.8-litre diesel engine.”

Toyota will have 13 products on display at Fieldays, which runs from June 12-15 at Mystery Creek near Hamilton, including new lower emissions models and accessories.

“Our SUV range is now largely available in hybrid electric powertrains as we continue to transition to electrified models where we can with a focus on capability, safety and affordability,” says Davis.

Complementing the new Prado and Hilux Hybrid will be the refreshed Land Cruiser 70, Land Cruiser 300, RAV4 Adventure and Corolla Cross.

Again this year, Toyota’s Fieldays site will be powered by hydrogen. In partnership with a European technology company, it has developed a generator using a fuel cell similar to the power unit inside the hydrogen-powered Mirai.

Brand guardians will be in Toyota’s big tent. Fishing enthusiasts will be able to get the latest tips and go in the draw to win a trip with legendary fisherman Matt Watson, who will be there on the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Olympian Dame Valerie Adams will be there on the Wednesday, Willie Apiata on Friday, Cameron Leslie on Saturday, and Marc Ellis on Wednesday and Thursday.

Toyota will have a Fieldays-only 4.9 per cent Hilux finance offer and special YETI gift with purchase for all orders made on-site.

Orders will also be taken for the 2024 Land Cruiser Prado, which has had multiple upgrades and revisions.

It will be available in New Zealand in four grades. The Adventure will be focused on off-roading performance with a rear-differential lock and stabiliser disconnect mechanism, while the VX Limited will be positioned as the more premium grade with adaptive variable suspension. Prices start at $83,990 for the GXL and top out at $105,990 for the VL Limited.
