Support for Auld Mug
Toyota NZ has renewed its longstanding partnership with Emirates Team New Zealand ahead of the defence of the 38th America’s Cup.
The car company has stood alongside the team since 1992 to make it one of the longest-running sports sponsorships in this country.
Andrew Davis, chief strategic officer of Toyota NZ, says: “We see something of ourselves in this team. They’re relentless about improving, brave enough to try what hasn’t been done before, and proud to represent New Zealand on the world stage. For 34 years we’ve backed that spirit.”
Grant Dalton, chief executive of Emirates Team NZ, adds: “Toyota has been with us through every phase of this journey – the highs, rebuilds and pursuit of doing things better.
“Having a partner that shares our commitment to innovation is important. Their support helps enable the kind of thinking and engineering that keeps this team competitive at the highest level.”

The partnership goes beyond racing. The team’s hydrogen-powered Chase Zero support boat, powered by Toyota fuel-cell technology, illustrates that high output and lower emissions can sit side by side.
From the Royal NZ Yacht Squadron to the Toyota Optimist Nationals and Toyota Kiwi Cup, the marque also supports grassroots pathways that connect young sailors to the dream of one day wearing the silver fern.
“When kids see Emirates Team NZ racing, they’re not just watching sport – they are seeing what’s possible,” says Davis, pictured above with the Auld Mug. “If we can help create that pathway from local club to world stage, that’s something we’re proud of.”
