Quirky custom car fetches $73k

Auctioneers cued up the sale of a quirky custom car that features a full-size pool table during an event in the UK featuring a range of wacky vintage vehicles.

One of the most eye-catching lots was The Pool Hustler, which was built by Steve Tansy in 1970.

It features a century-old pool table sitting on a custom chassis with a V8 Hemi engine, which is paired to an automatic gearbox.

Four exhaust pipes from the engine exit each side under the pool table and the wheels have covers made to look like pool balls.

Tansy was a custom car and hot-rod builder who spent nearly 40 years remodelling vehicles for film and TV, including the Batmobile, Ecto-1 used in Ghostbusters, and the Black Beauty used in The Green Hornet.

The Pool Hustler, which was part of the Mercedes-Benz World auction at Brooklands motor racing circuit in November last year, sold for £32,032 (about $73,800).
