New dealership with commercial clout
A new dealership dedicated to light commercial vehicles has opened in Waikato and hopes to tap into growing interest for such models thanks to the government’s Investment Boost package.
Winger Motors Hamilton Commercial sells JAC utes and Fiat Professional vans along with used commercial and SUV stock from its site on Te Rapa Road, Hamilton.
The branch is run by Dominic DeGiorgio and supported by the main Winger Motors Hamilton dealership, which is “only a stone’s throw away” and supports the commercial site with its parts and service facility.
Paul Burborough, Winger Motors Hamilton dealer principal, says the commercial operation is located on one of the busiest roads in Hamilton and the property became available at the perfect time.
“There is a huge demand for commercial vehicles within the Waikato,” he explains.
“Even more so now with the government’s announcement of the Investment Boost incentive.
“With the Waikato having a large population in agriculture and trade industries, the demand for utes and vans has always been high. We also needed an offering for our current client base.”
Investment Boost was launched by the government after its budget announcement in May and is a new tax incentive for businesses to invest in assets such as machinery, tools and equipment.
It allows businesses to deduct 20 per cent of a new asset’s value from that year’s taxable income, on top of normal depreciation.
Burborough says the commercial market remains strong and the company believes JAC and Fiat Professional are two brands that will help it “provide a great alternative for our customers here in the Waikato”.
“We have seen an influx of new ute offerings in the market with more to come later in the year in diesel and hybrid, giving more choice for our buyers.
“We have also seen spec levels increase and pricing become very competitive, and that’s been coupled with the recent announcement by the government regarding Investment Boost.”
He believes the future for the light commercial market is positive and expects that will help a number of consumers bring forward the decision to purchase a ute or van “that may have been stalled temporarily by some in favour of other priorities”.
Winger Motors Hamilton Commercial, which officially opened on June 6, currently offers two Fiat Professional vehicles, the Ducato and the all-new Scudo.
The T9 Luxury is the only current model available from JAC but Burborough notes the marque showcased its Hunter Super Hybrid ute at National Fieldays this month and it attracted a lot of attention.
“We await with interest any announcements of when that ute may enter the market, which will hopefully be later this year or early next,” says Burborough.
