MG unveils sporty EV
MG has borrowed some design cues from its previous sports cars for its first small EV, which has been revealed as a concept at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England.
Sales of a production version of the concept – called the Go! – are slated to commence next year.
SAIC’s design department in the UK has created it to be a “likeable” competitor in a segment that has seen strong growth with retro-designed EVs such as the Mini Cooper Electric and Renault 5.
The Go! references the MGB GT coupe, produced in the 1960s and 1970s, as seen in the downturned lines of a dummy front grille and in the vertical elements in the taillamps.
MG says the concept, pictured, was “dressed up” for Goodwood compared with the production version, which will lose racier elements such as the bulging fenders, large wheels, tow handles and rear diffuser.
The production version of the Go!, potentially called the MG2, will give the marque a competitor in the developing market for small EVs, which now includes the Volkswagen ID Polo, Cupra Raval and BYD Dolphin Surf.
