MG unleashes all-new EV

MG Motor New Zealand has confirmed the all-new MGS5 EV is due to arrive in showrooms across the country before the end of the month.
The all-electric model is available in two battery sizes, 49kWh and 62kWh, with Excite and Essence variants available for both.
This will deliver an NEDC driving range of up to 515km and allow charging from 30 per cent to 80 per cent in 19 minutes.
All variants have a maximum power of 125kW and 250Nm of torque and can deliver a top speed of 170kph.
The MGS5 EV is built on the same platform as the MG4 and offers rear-wheel drive with five-link suspension.
Using the marque’s modular scalable platform also means the battery is 110mm high, which creates more space in the car.
Peter Ciao, MG Motor Australia and New Zealand chief executive, says: “The MGS5 EV will offer the best value for Kiwi families in the electric SUV segment. Our MG engineers have designed a beautiful-looking car, featuring a great range of technology features as standard.
“New Zealanders loved the driving dynamics of the MG4, with these carried over to the MGS5 EV.
“Our love of an SUV, combined with MG’s upgraded tech features, means the MGS5 EV is sure to be embraced by Kiwi motorists.”
The MGS5 EV comes with a 12.8-inch infotainment display screen and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto across the range.
A hands-free power tailgate and panoramic sunroof are also available on the Essence variants.
As for storage, the model boasts 453 litres of boot space and 1441l when the rear seats are fully folded.
Pricing starts from $44,990 plus on-road costs.
