Last day for Euro 4 border checks

Dealers and importers are being reminded that today is the final day for Euro 4 vehicles to be border-checked before new standards under the exhaust emissions rule come into effect.

The Imported Motor Vehicle Industry Association (VIA) has issued an alert to its members also highlighting the same cut-off date applies to all Japanese-sourced vehicles with emissions codes Axx, Bxx and Cxx, plus Dxx models manufactured before 2012.

“If you have purchased any of the affected vehicles make sure these cars are at the TRS in Japan so they can be border-checked by April 29 as NZTA is unlikely to issue any exemptions,” says VIA.

“The requirement for Japanese vehicles to be Dxx – post January 1, 2012 – or a better standard commences on April 30.”

All imported used light vehicles must meet the Euro 5 standard or its equivalents from April 30 after the government made changes to the Land Transport Rule: Vehicle Exhaust Emissions 2007.

VIA adds it is working with the NZ Transport Agency to ensure an “exhaustive list” of acceptable Japanese emissions codes will be made available to industry.
