A hilarious advert for a second-hand Toyota Corolla went viral and attracted hundreds of thousands of views after the vehicle’s owner delivered an unorthodox sales pitch.

Titled “1999 Toyota Corolla – Fine AF”, the ad in the US quickly cuts to the chase and says: “You want a car that gets the job done? You want a car that’s hassle-free? You want a car that literally no one will ever compliment you on? Well look no further”.

Jason Hlavenka, a Houston resident, penned the campaign that features plenty of funny twists in 2018. He had tried to sell the car, pictured, on eBay Motors with an asking price of US$2,500 but decided to “try a different approach” after finding no buyers.

He bluntly describes the car’s features: “Bluetooth: nope. Sunroof: nope. Fancy wheels: nope. Rearview camera: nope… but it’s got a transparent rear window and you have a f***ing neck that can turn”.

Another comical line reads: “You could take the engine out of this car, drop it off the Golden Gate Bridge, fish it out of the water a thousand years later, put it in the trunk of the car, fill the gas tank up with Nutella, turn the key, and this puppy would f***ing start right up.”

The advert, posted on the US website Craigslist, goes on to say: “This car will outlive you, it will outlive your children.

“Let me tell you a story. One day my Corolla started making a strange sound. I didn't give a s*** and ignored it. It went away. The End.”

Hlavenkam also lists some “interesting facts” about the vehicle, such as “this car's exterior colour is gray, but its interior colour is grey”, and a made-up tale of people being “bored to death” at the model’s unveiling.

“Let's face the facts, this car isn't going to win any beauty contests, but neither are you,” he continues. “Stop lying to yourself and stop lying to your wife. This isn't the car you want, it’s the car you deserve: The f***ing 1999 Toyota Corolla.”

Despite Hlavenkam’s creative prose, his alternative approach didn’t tempt any buyers either and he reportedly ended up selling the Corolla for US$1,700 to someone who saw a for-sale sign on the car.

It was also after he had completed the sale that his Craiglist advert went viral after being shared by users on X.
