Ford stalls electric models

Ford Motor Co has confirmed it is delaying production plans for a full-size electric light commercial vehicle and an electric van as it puts more focus on smaller, more affordable models.
A spokesperson says the two next-generation electric vehicles are being put on hold because the “F-150 Lightning, America’s best-selling electric truck, and E-Transit continue to meet today’s customer needs”, reports Automotive News.
The carmaker has told suppliers in the United States that an electric pickup set to be built at its assembly plant in Tennessee has been delayed from 2027 to 2028, while production of an electric van slated for 2026 in Ohio won’t start until 2028.
It is the latest postponements for both models, with the van originally expected by the middle of this decade and the pickup, known internally as “T3”, was initially due to roll off production lines this year.
The changes come as Ford puts more emphasis on a low-cost EV platform designed to underpin a handful of smaller models, reports Automotive News.
