Audi will unveil its new A2 e-tron later this year, complementing its portfolio with an all-electric entry-level model family in the compact class.

Made in Germany, the aim is for it to “further rejuvenate” the marque’s range and increase access to premium electric mobility. A preview of the car’s silhouette can already be seen in the first design sketch.

“We’ve listened,” says Gernot Döllner, Audi’s chief executive officer. “Our customers want electric mobility that impresses in everyday life.

“The A2 e-tron is our promise to deliver exactly that – efficient, compact and confident. We’re making entry into the electric Audi world easier and more relevant.”

Greg Leet, general manager of Audi NZ, says the need for a compact EV at an entry price-point is “extremely important”. He adds: “Audi is targeting a customer base that values everyday usability in the city, sustainability, high efficiency and digital connectivity.

“The A2 e-tron will not only strengthen our electric portfolio, but will make entering the brand more accessible with the price-point we hope to secure for this model.”

The model’s name is a deliberate nod to the A2 of more than 25 years ago and it will be built in Ingolstadt.

“The A2 e-tron is crucial for our brand and German home,” adds Döllner. “With the production of an additional fully electric model family in Ingolstadt, we are securing jobs and delivering electric mobility ‘made in Germany’.”

After more than 20 new models in 2024 and 2025, Audi says it now has the youngest portfolio among its competition – from fully electric compacts to the premium full-size segment.

This year, its focus is on two product lines that “strategically perfect” its line-up at the top end and entry point – the full-size Q9 and A2 e-tron.
