Boost for EV chargers

The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) has welcomed the NSW government’s announcement of an extra investment of AU$5.9 million, or about NZ$6.74m, in EV charging across regional communities.

The programme will deliver 159 new chargers at 48 locations, supported by AU$3.2m in private co-funding. They will be installed along major touring routes and in town centres, rest areas and tourism destinations across the state.

Tony Weber, the FCAI’s chief executive, says: “Expanding charging options outside metropolitan areas is essential for consumer confidence. This investment helps address one of the key barriers to EV uptake by giving motorists greater certainty they can travel long distances with ease.

“Drivers want to know they can visit regional towns, support local businesses and enjoy the best of NSW without worrying about where they will recharge.

“Manufacturers are bringing an increasing range of low and zero-emissions vehicles to the Australian market. Continued expansion of the charging network will help ensure these can be used confidently in all parts of the country.”

FCAI members now offer Australians more than 100 battery electric vehicle models and more than 50 plug-in hybrid models.
