Audi issues scam alert

Audi has issued a warning to consumers after a number of its models have been used as part of a scam in the used-car trade.
The carmaker says fraudulent websites and fake catalogues are currently offering used Audi models at particularly low prices in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
“They aim to lure potential customers and encourage them to purchase or make payments for non-existent used Audi cars,” the company adds.
It notes the used models are being offered for sale on “deceptively real-looking websites” and in catalogues that appear to be legitimate sales channels of Audi AG or genuine Audi sales material.
However, neither the sales instruments mentioned nor the vehicles offered exist.
“Those responsible are using fake email addresses, telephone numbers, and bank details and are not afraid to use images of actual employees of Audi sales partners,” warns the German marque.
“Unfortunately, several customers have already been victimised by this scam. Audi AG regrets this very much.”
Audi says it has filed a criminal complaint over the matter and is co-operating with the authorities in their investigations.
