Bumper month for RAV4 helps marque top sales charts for new passenger vehicles in April.

There were 6,119 new passenger vehicles registered in April for a fall of 12.9 per cent from 7,029 in the same month of 2023. 

Toyota’s RAV4, pictured, with 1,011 units was the best-selling model after jumping 88.3 per cent from 537 a year ago and securing a market share of 16.5 per cent. 

The Suzuki Swift was second on 256 and 4.2 per cent, although its sales were down from 276 in April 2023, and Mitsubishi’s Outlander was third with 245 and four per cent.

Completing the top five was the Kia Seltos on 207 units and 3.5 per cent of the market, and the Ford Everest with 182 and three per cent.

The RAV4 is also the clear leader on the year-to-date ladder and has sold 2,883 units for 10.4 per cent of the market. 

Mitsubishi models took the next two spots with the Outlander on figures of 1,208 and 4.4 per cent respectively, and the ASX with 1,101 and four per cent.

The Seltos on 966 sales over the past four months and the Swift with 935 rounds out the top five.

Toyota was the top-selling marque in April on 1,663 units, which was up 22.5 per cent from 1,357 in the same month a year ago. Its share of last month’s new passenger-vehicle market came in at 27.2 per cent.

Kia was second on 595, a drop of 15.8 per cent year on year to claim 9.7 per cent of the market.

Mitsubishi came third with 542 registrations, while Suzuki and Ford were next on 488 and 321 sales, respectively.

Toyota is out front year-to-date after notching 5,991 sales for a 21.6 per cent market share, followed by Mitsubishi on 3,072 and 10.2 per cent.

Kia on 2,812 sales, Suzuki with 1,856 and Ford with 1,414 complete the top five for the first four months of 2024.
