Sales spike for used imports

There were 8,731 used-imported cars registered last month, an increase of 10.1 per cent when compared with the 7,927 registrations in April last year.

Toyota’s Aqua and Prius emerged as the top two models with 847 and 774 sales respectively.

The Aqua took 9.7 per cent of the April market even though its sales fell 29.4 per cent from 1,199 a year ago. Meanwhile, the Prius had an 8.9 per cent share as its numbers slipped 7.1 per cent year on year from 833.

Mazda’s Axela was the third best-seller last month with 374 units, followed by the Toyota Corolla on 366 and Nissan’s Note on 355, which meant the top five positions remained the same as in March this year.

Year to date, the Aqua tops the charts with 3,684 registrations and 10.4 per cent of the market, followed by the Prius on 2,975 and 8.4 per cent, and the Axela on 1,573 and 4.4 per cent.

Toyota was the top marque in April after recording 3,392 sales, which was up 2.3 per cent from 3,315 in the same month of last year. This gave it a 38.5 per cent slice of the total market.

Mazda was second with 1,203 units, a jump of 15.7 per cent from 1,040 a year ago, and a 13.8 per cent share.

Nissan, Honda and Subaru completed the top five with 1,141, 738 and 688 sales, respectively, with all three seeing their numbers increase from April 2023.

Toyota has accounted for 38.5 per cent of all used-imported cars sold from January to the end of April, clocking up 13,641 registrations.

Those numbers put it ahead of Mazda on 4,973 and Nissan with 4,819 in the year-to-date standings.
