Light commercials market flat

Little change year-on-year for new models but registrations of used imports are on the up.

Light commercials market flat

There were 3,114 new commercials registered last month as the market stayed flat compared with April last year when the total was only one unit higher.

Ford’s Ranger was the top model in April with 836 units and a 26.8 per cent market share despite its sales dipping 9.8 per cent from 927 in the same month of 2023.

The Toyota Hilux was second on 512 registrations, a 21.4 per cent decrease from 651 in April last year, and Mitsubishi’s Triton came third with 405 as its figures jumped 58.2 per cent from 256 units.

Completing the top five was the Nissan Navara, pictured, on 174 and Toyota’s Hiace with 162.

Year to date, the Ranger has 4,267 registrations and a 27.7 per cent market share, while the Hilux is on 2,472 and 16.1 per cent.

Ford was number one on the marques’ ladder in April with 944 units – down from 971 in the first four months of 2023 – and a 30.3 per cent market share.

Toyota was next on 716 units and 23 per cent, although its number of light commercial registrations was also in decline from 896 in April last year.

Completing the top five was Mitsubishi, Isuzu and Nissan with 406, 190 and 174 sales respectively.

Ford is out front on the year-to-date chart with 4,771 registrations and 31 per cent of the market, ahead of Toyota on 3,377 and 21.9 per cent.

As for used-imported commercials, there were 483 units registered in April. This was up 11.8 per cent from 423 in the same month of 2023. 

Toyota was the best-selling marque with 263 registrations and a market share of 54.5 per cent with Nissan next on 97 and 20.1 per cent.

The Toyota Hiace was the top model with 41.4 per cent of April’s market thanks to 200 sales, which was up from 149 a year ago.

Nissan’s NV350 was next with 66 registrations and a 12.8 per cent share of activity, while the Toyota Regius was third on 30 units.
